It pretty much gives each character a set personal skill and then 2-3 skills they can learn via hidden requirements or by just levelling up, in relation to what class they startpromote into.

However, each char has a unique skill that make it different.
Also, BOSSES have them too!
Example:
Garcia has a skill that gives him +20 crit whenever HE starts the battle.
Gilliam has 'provoke', which means that long-range ballistas and powerful enemies in range WILL attack him, all the time.
EirikaEprhaim obtain 'Aether' at level 10.
Seth has a skill that gives him +2 DefRes whenever fighiting full HP enemies.
Moulder has shove!
Dozla has Smite! And he also has a skill that is luck % based that gives you a Red Gem whenever he pwns an enemy! So keep the Goddess Icons for him!
There are also 'weapon-breaker' skills that allow you to pwn a type of weapon with a specific character (a character with 'lance breaker' gets +50 hit and +50 avoid against people that are currently equipped with a lance.
